The Jura:
Relaxation:: Very much loved is the nearby "Lac de Vouglans", a lake from 35 km length, which is great for swimming. (water temp. 22°C - 25°C) All kind off water sport can be practised there; there sails even a cruise ship. The Jura is a true hiking paradise. There are many trails through the woods, many of which can be joined directly from the house (hiking maps are availible). The woods have mainly foliage trees with a rich undergrowth, which makes every hike a new experience. Popular is the "Cirque de
Baume les messieurs"; a spectral horseshoe formed deep valley, with waterfalls, caves to visit, and an impressive 17th. century abby. Another point of attraction are the "Cascades d'Hérisson". Here you find, following a trail of 5 km.,7 waterfalls in succession. The Jura is very famous for its typical white wine and its cheeses.

Marangea: Cornelis and Ria de Voogd, a Dutch couple, established their home in Marangea, a hamlet at 500 m altitude in the "Petite Montagne". There they found an ideal place to settle their centre for painting courses. Very close to lake Vouglans, which is 35 km long and where it is lovely swimming in summer, with its water temperature between 21°C and 25°C. The large garden with the view on the mountains is a place to enjoy and relax. Accompanying partners don't need to border themselves, there are many beautiful sites to visit. In summertime it is dry and warm, but not sultry, the altitude ensures a pleasant cool off in the evenings. The air is, far away from industrial area's, clean and clear, which results in a spendid starry sky at night.
The house: The house is big and comfortable, build in 1900 and adapted to the standards of nowadays. On the second floor are 4 rooms for 1 - 4 persons; they all have a shower and toilet en suite. On the first floor are 2 rooms with shared shower and toilet. We take breakfast and lunch in a large dining room and we often dine outdoors on the terrace. There are several art ateliers available. In the evening there is a cosy atmosphere with conversation and a glass off wine in the garden, the veranda or around the fireplace in the dining room. |
